Cat Vaccinations at Angelus Pet Hospital

Vaccines protect cats from serious, sometimes fatal diseases — but not every cat needs every vaccine. We follow current feline vaccination guidelines, giving core vaccines to all cats and recommending others based on honest risk assessment.

Core protection covers rabies (required in Los Angeles County) and the FVRCP combination against panleukopenia and the major respiratory viruses. For kittens and cats who go outdoors, we typically add feline leukemia (FeLV) protection.

Vaccination program

  • FVRCP (feline distemper/respiratory combination)
  • Rabies, per Los Angeles County requirements
  • FeLV for kittens and outdoor cats
  • Kitten booster series done right
  • Three-year protocols where appropriate to minimize injections

What to expect

Vaccines ride along with a full exam — never injections alone. We'll review your cat's lifestyle and risk honestly, give what's due, skip what isn't, and use three-year protocols where appropriate to keep injections to the minimum that maintains protection.

Frequently asked questions

Which vaccines does an indoor cat actually need?

Rabies (required by Los Angeles County and vital for human safety) and FVRCP, the core combination against panleukopenia and the major respiratory viruses. FeLV is added for kittens and any cat with outdoor access or exposure to cats of unknown status.

Are vaccines safe for cats?

Yes — serious reactions are rare, and we use modern vaccine types and placement guidelines specifically designed to minimize feline risks. Mild lethargy for a day is the most common effect. For any cat with a prior reaction, we adjust the plan.

Why does my kitten need so many booster visits?

Antibodies from the mother fade on an unpredictable schedule and block vaccines while present. The booster series ensures at least one dose lands after maternal protection fades but before real-world exposure — timing is the whole game.
